Fruit Tree Pruning
Pruning fruit trees to create more light in the centre of the tree whilst maintaining a good shape requires more skill than it would initially appear. This operation does not generally require any specialist equipment; a sharp pair of loppers and a pruning saw usually get the job done, so many people carry out this work themselves. If it is not done correctly it can however cause problems, not only in terms of fruit yield but also for the health and physical appearance of the tree.
A tree which has been incorrectly pruned is not easy to put right, and will sometimes suffer lasting damage. Below are before and after pictures of an apple tree we pruned in Marlborough . It can be a relatively time consuming job but when done properly it will reap the rewards of a healthy and aesthetically pleasing tree as well as an improved harvest.
Below are two before and afters on some Apple trees to make them easier to maintain and allow better fruit production.
